In der Single „Catch & Release“ verweist Burwell auf intime Sphären ihrer persönlichen und professionellen Entwicklung. „The general theme of this song is feeling as if I am ‚eternally average‘. In the song I speak about this false confidence I can experience before there is a plateau”. Ein ewiges Streben nach etwas, um dann wieder davon abzulassen und weiterzuziehen – diesen Prozess verarbeitet sie in „Catch & Release„. „I remember being in church and wanting to connect to what everyone was talking about so bad, and trying so hard but just feeling like I was missing something. Ultimately feeling like I wasn’t capable to get to this deeper understanding that it seemed everyone else had. This just led me to feel like this was another thing I could only go so far with”, erklärt Marissa Burwell zum Hintergrund ihrer neuen Single.
